MATCH REPORT GLOUCESTERSHIRE 18 - CORNWALL 9

Gloucestershire turned in a dogged performance to carve out a hard fought win against Cornwall on a wet and blustery afternoon in Redruth. On a day that was made for the front five, it was Gloucestershire who came out on top, due mainly to their scrum dominance. From the first scrum of the afternoon, Gloucestershire were on top, as typified by a push over try from captain Tyler Jerrum, (Cleve RFC). The Gloucestershire front row of Costner Lane (Lydney RFC), Jack Williams (Cinderford RFC) and Alex Chalklin (University of Bristol RFC) continued to turn the screw, and it wasn’t long before Cornwall lost their loose head to the sin bin for repeated scrum offences.  Gloucestershire’s second try soon followed. From another solid platform, it was Terence Babarinsa (Cinderford RFC) who was able to force his way over with a powerful finish following a lovely little break from Tom Webb (Newent RFC). Gloucestershire continued their scrum dominance throughout, but were unable to add any further tries.  Robbie Faulkner (Drybrook RFC), making his first county appearance this season, kicked 1 conversion and two penalties in a kicking display that was a marked improvement on Gloucestershire’s last outing.

Gloucestershire now go on to play Berkshire at Cinderford on the 19th March. Meanwhile Hampshire maintain their unbeaten run winning away to Berkshire 34-24.
