Match Report Senior Ladies v Berkshire, Maidenhead, Sunday 7/5/17

Match Report Senior Ladies v Berkshire, Maidenhead, Sunday 7/5/17

Strong start from GRFU, playing with width and tempo and taking a 14-0 lead into the 2nd quarter, with tries from Chipping Sodbury's Katie Lane and Bristol Ladies' Clea Fawcett, both of which were converted by Mary-Anne Gittings.  Berkshire then took a grip on the game, with some poor tackling and lack of accuracy at the breakdown from GRFU allowing Berkshire to score a try and penalty of their own.  HT score 10-14.

Berkshire started the 2nd half better and quickly racked up another couple of scores and racing into a 12 point lead.  This spurred GRFU into life and they started to put some phases together, allowing them to create pressure on the Berkshire defence and resulting in a well worked try for Aretians' Amy Meechan who showed outstanding footwork to beat 4 defenders on the way to the line.  Jade Gamlin converted to make it a 1 point game with 4 minutes left to play.  There was a frantic and energetic last few minutes with lots of intent and desire shown by GRFU, but ultimately ending with them coming up short.  Final score 22-21
