U-20 Match Report v Kent @ Cranbrook RFC

KENT U20S, 27    V GLOUCESTERSHIRE U20S, 25

(Sunday 2/4/17 @ Cranbrook RFC, Kent)

This was a ‘ding dong ‘ affair according to one of the Gloucestershire coaches with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. On the balance of territory secured Kent probably deserved the win. But the game wasn’t decided until the last ten minutes. With 8 minutes left Gloucestershire were winning 25 -24 but Kent applied great pressure going through 17 phases of play before Gloucestershire turned them over and Kent conceded a knock on. From the ensuing scrum Gloucestershire broke down the blindside and when  the player was bundled into touch there was every expectation of a lineout to Kent. However a Gloucestershire player kicked the ball away and the referee, as is his prerogative awarded penalty to Kent instead. A superb 45-metre kick put Kent once again in the lead and into the Semi –finals.

A disappointed Gloucestershire team retuned to the County crestfallen but with pride restored in the shirt. This was a noble loss and the players gave their all.
